History

It was established under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, and was founded in 1984 as a self-financing institution called the Vellore Engineering College. The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development conferred University status on Vellore Engineering College in 2001. The University is headed by its founder and Chancellor, Dr. G. Viswanathan, a former Parliamentarian and Minister in the Tamil Nadu Government. In recognition of his service to India in offering world class education, he was conferred an honorary doctorate by the West Virginia University, USA. Sankar Viswanathan, Sekar Viswanathan and G.V. Selvam are the Vice-Presidents; Dr. Anand A. Samuel is the Vice-Chancellor and Dr. V. Raju and Dr. S. Narayanan are the Pro-Vice-Chancellors.

Infrastructure

VIT campus is spread across a vast area of 250 acres. A striking feature of VIT is the well- planned and comprehensive infrastructure provided for both students and faculty. Fully furnished and well-equipped labs decorate every building in the University with over 55 servers to manage all the data transmissions. Moreover, the university is blessed with ample features that support all kinds of events - Auditoriums, plush open spaces, outdoor stages and much more.

Academic Blocks

A striking feature of VIT is the well-planned and comprehensive infrastructure provided for both students and faculty. There are seven academic blocks in VIT which are extremely specialised in their own particular field, namely- MB, GDN, CDMM, SMV, CBMR, TT and SJT. The layout has been excellently planned to make the maximum utilisation of the 250 acre campus. The idea behind these separate blocks is to make every block equipped with the necessary amenities whilst providing the perfect atmosphere for both studies and research.

"VIT to focus on research with international collaborations to move up in world ranking" Govt. of India has recognized VIT, Vellore as an Institution of Eminence. This is a move from Gol to give autonomy to selected institutions of higher education in India, so as to encourage the institutions to take independent quality initiatives and move up in world ranking. The Chancellor of VIT, Dr. G. Viswanathan told that VIT has strategies to move up to the top 500 in the world university ranking in the next 3 years time. He also said that in World Subject Ranking, VIT has already been placed under 550 ranking in 3 subjects namely . (1) Computer Science and Information Systems, (2) Electrical and Electronics Engineering and (3) Chemistry.


The loE status, according to Dr. G. Viswanathan, will give VIT the freedom needed to introduce new innovative programmes and schemes to benefit national and international society at large. This has paved way for VIT to move up the quality ladder faster with greater efficiency. This will help in collaborating with elite institutions abroad to do high end research, to help industries and also to develop new products, in tune with "Make in India" dream project of Gol. The Chancellor of VIT mentioned that this is a recognition for VIT, for its contribution in the past, in research output, innovations introduced in academics, national and international collaborations, societal contributions through adoption of villages and free educations to district toppers in Govt. Schools in Tamil Nadu, agile eco system in the campus for overall development of every student and for the start up culture inculcated in the campus. The growth pattern of this university has been remarkable and it is worth a mention that in the last year 719 companies have come to VIT for placement to offer dream and super dream offers to VIT students. VIT also has a system where industry experts, will give lectures on contemporary topics in every subjects in the class room. This draws more than 1500 industry experts to the campus.


VIT is planning to start many innovative UG and PG programmes, in collaboration with Indian industries and reputed universities abroad. They will all be focused on niche areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cyber Physical System, Autonomous Mobility, Wearable Technology, Smart Structures, Fin Tech, Sustainable Cyber Safety and Security, New Materials Technology, Developmental Economics, etc. Multi-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary approach will be followed in all its academics and research activities. Government of India announced the first ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions for Innovation Achievements) 2019 awards on 08/04/19. We are delighted to share the news that VIT has been awarded the No.1 position among the private institutions. Auditoriums & Conference Facilities

Our University firmly believes in providing its students exposure to national and international knowledge experts, through regular national and international conferences / symposia and workshops hosted on campus. It is with this view that a wide choice of modern conference facilities have been meticulously planned and incorporated into the VIT campus. ‘Anna Audi ‘ commonly used by students is nothing short of being a marvel. Able to accommodate 1800 students and spread over an area of 15436 sq. feet , it has been built with centralised air conditioners , Wi-fi service and a spectacular stage along with green rooms and perfect amount of lighting. This auditorium is used for various events and conferences.

It is located beside the volleyball and basketball courts and serves as THE landmark in VIT.

  • The course fee for B.Tech ranges from INR 1,73,000 per annum to INR 1,95,000 per annum.

About VITEEE 2021


The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) will now include an aptitude section. The exam authorities say that the introduction of aptitude section for VITEEE Exam has been based on the feedback of various stakeholders including industries and academic experts. The Aptitude Section has been implemented by the VIT University as part of its screening process for VITEEE 2021 exam.


VITEEE 2021 New Exam Pattern Details

Post the introduction of Aptitude Section, the VITEEE 2021 exam will now consist of five key sections namely – Mathematics/Biology (40 Questions), Physics (35 Questions), Chemistry (35 Questions), Aptitude (10 Questions), and English (5 Questions) respectively.

The marking scheme will not carry any negative marking. The duration of the examination will continue to be 2 hours and 30 minutes. The other new feature introduced in the paper though is the restriction of questions across different sections.


VITEEE 2021 Eligibility

VIT will conduct VITEEE 2021 exam and will set the eligibility criteria for the exam. Candidates must clear the eligibility criteria else they will be subject to rejection. The key eligibility criteria are as follows

  • Minimum marks for General: Candidates should have an aggregate score of 60% in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics/Biology in their 12th. Candidates from NIOS are also eligible to appear in VITEE 2021. The PCBE/PCME Combined marks should be above 50%.
  • Minimum marks for SC/ST: Candidates from SC/ST caste or North-East India should have an aggregate score of 50%.
  • Age Limit: Candidates born on or after 1st July 1997 are eligible for VITEEE 2021. Candidates must have completed 17 years of age as on 1st July of the Admission year (2021).

VITEEE 2021 Exam Dates

You need to know the viteee exam date and other VIT entrance exam important dates, so that you can plan ahead and prepare well for the exam. Some of the important dates are:


  • Application Form Date: You have to submit the submit VITEEE 2021 Application Form before February 29, 2021.
  • Admit Card: Once you book an exam slot, you will be able to download VITEEE 2021 Admit Card. You can download it from March 25, 2021 on the official website of VIT.
  • Exam Date: VITEEE Exam will start from April 10, 2021 and will end on April 21, 2021.

VITEEE Admit Card 2021

After the completion of slot booking, VITEEE 2021 admit card is generated online for the candidates. Candidates have to click on the download option given therein and print the admit card of VITEEE 2021. Candidates must check the details mentioned in the VITEEE admit card for discrepancies and get them corrected if any.

    The e-Admit card of VITEEE 2021 will indicate the following details:

  • Admit card number
  • Photograph of the student
  • Address of the test centre
  • Test date and time selected by the candidate.

Candidates will also receive a copy of the admit card of VITEEE 2021 on their email for which they must ensure that they provide a valid email id in their application form.


VITEEE Eligibility Criteria 2021

Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria of VITEEE 2021 before applying for the entrance exam. Given below are the detailed VITEEE 2021 eligibility criteria.

  • Nationality- Candidate should be a Resident of India. NRIs can also apply. PIO/OCI candidates who have studied in schools located in        India in the preceding two years are also eligible to apply.
  • Age Requirement- Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 1997 are eligible to apply for VITEEE 2021. Candidates must       have completed the age of 17 years as on 1st July of the admission year.
  • Educational Qualification- Candidates who have either completed any of the following qualifying exams or shall be appearing in 2021       are eligible to apply.

1. The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi), The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi)

2. Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board / University.

3. NIOS candidates are also eligible to apply.

VITEEE Syllabus 2021

Vellore Institute of Technology will announce the detailed exam syllabus comprising of topics from Maths, Chemistry, Physics and English tentatively in November. Candidates are advised to brief themselves with VITEEE Syllabus 2021 to prepare well for the upcoming exam.
