Government Medical College Ernakulam, formerly known as Cochin Medical College, was established in 1999 by the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education. The college is constructed under the Ministry of Cooperation and the Government of Kerala. GMC Ernakulam is affiliated with Kerala University of Health Sciences and approved by the Medical Council of India. The college is spread across 60 acres and is located in Kochi, Kerala.

GMC Ernakulam offers an MBBS program at the undergraduate level with an seat intake capacity of 110 seats. The college also offers BSc Nursing and GNM at the undergraduate and diploma levels based on merit scores. At the postgraduate level, the college offers MD and MS in disciplines such as psychiatry, pathology, paediatrics and microbiology. GMC Ernakulam accepts NEET UG and NEET PG for the MBBS and MD/MS programs. Students clearing NEET UG and NEET PG must undergo a State-level counselling conducted by CEE. Candidates pursuing MBBS at the college will receive a stipend of INR 28,000 during their rotary internship.
